Karamea River Trout Fishing
Karamea river is popular for trout fishing.Guide available. Kahawai
and Snapper fishing during the summer months.
Lake Hanlon: 40 Minute return.
20km south of Karamea a signpost on Highway indicates the short
walk to this tranquil and picturesque lake.
Zig Zig Track: 60 Minute return.
The track was originally used by the early settlers, and starts
approximately 2.5km up the Arapito side of the Karamea River. It
takes you up into the South Terrace, giving great views north of
Karamea and of the river flats and farm land.
Big Rimu Tree: 45 Minutes return.
The track starts 7km up the Umere Road, and takes you through lush
native bush to a magnificent rimu tree.
Karamea River Bank Stroll: 30 minutes plus.
This is an enjoyable evening stroll.
Flagstaff: 60 minutes plus.
Starting near the aerodrome you walk up to the beach. 60 minutes
plus workout round the sandspit! Seat & River mouth access.

Fenian Track: "Maloneys Bluff" 90 minutes return.
This track continues to the Fenian Caves and Adams Flat.
Heaphy Track: Driving 15 km north
of Karamea to Kohaihai River and the start of the Heaphy Track offers
you the following short walk options.
20 minutes return: A short walk
suitable for all ages up the first part of the track over the
wooden bridge, turning right in an area of nikau palms and lush
subtropical vegetation.
40 minute return: The longer options takes you further
in the nikau grove, via a loop track back to meet the main track.
Scotts Beach: 1.5hrs return,
A walk through coastal bush and includes a short detour to a lookout
with excellent views. Descend to Scotts Beach, and return via the
same route. The beautiful beach and rocky headland is typical of
the coastal scenery the Heaphy Track walkers enjoy on the eastern
leg of their trip.
Mountain Biking: on 20kms of a recently
opened track in the Oparara Basin.
